What Would the World Actually Be Like if the South Won

I've been reading the Southern Victory series lately and what do you guys think the world would be like if the south won the civil war. Topics could include possible presidents, wars, alliances, alternative fates.

For me I think the south would have gotten rid of slavery (international pressure) by the end of the 19th century but blacks would be the equivalent of Russian serfs. And with the whole State"s Rights bullshit ruling in the south the South would probably look a lot like that of European feudalism.

Each would be competing, trying to stay one step ahead of the other. There would be a lot of border clashes, skirmishes, ect. Tensions would be very high, and war would always be a constant threat.

Henry Turtledove wrote a good series of books on this subject.

The North would probably get all the immigration from Europe as I don't see the Confederacy that appealing to non-white protestants

There would be a massive nuclear war between the two once they got nukes and fallout would happen. Just had to throw that in there.

My wonder is (and i havent read Southern Victory Series so sorry if that explains it) who the Russian Empire would give its support to after the wars, the Russians were rather close with the Americans in the 19th century so a victorious CSA might cause the Russians to shift support to the South (more aristocratic).

In the Southern Victory Series,

with Germany and the South sides with the Entente, so I would assume Russia is with the South.

Yes but the south being more aristiocratic and feudal wouldn't be that appealing to immigrants who left their countries to get away from that. On the Russian thing I think it would either keep Alaska or sell it to the U.S. like in OTL

I think the Turtledove series summed it up pretty well, and it felt realistic too.

I think the South would have had a very touchy, dangerous border with the U.S., needing to rely possibly on European military support. In the C.S.A. itself, their own version of the federal government would be highly fractious due to the South's mantra of states' rights. I think legislation regarding the economy, the military, infrastructure, etc...would have been bogged down from competing states' interests. Plus, like what someone said earlier, the South would never have attracted the loads of European immigrants later, especially Catholic ones.

In all, I don't think an independent South would have lasted for long. It would have come into a major conflict with the U.S. again at some point.

The south kinda ended slavery before the war ended, when they allowed blacks in the army towards the end.

they only did that as a last resort because all the white-males were either dead, serving in the army, or to old for any use.

But my point is, they ended slavery.

I feel the south would end up getting rid of slavery and set up some kind of apartheid system. There would most likely be strong tensions between the USA and CSA that might lead to smaller conflicts between the two counties. For the South it would have to really start industrializing to keep up with the rest of the world. This split might also lead the the USA staying out of World affairs such as in imperialism and the First World War.
