It's pop music with Distortion Guitar. Hell, Coheed and Cambria are more Metal than them, and they're an Alternoprog band. Here's some good Metal off the top of my head Iron Maiden, Dio, Black Sabbath, Danzig, Megadeth, Slayer, Anthrax, Saxon, Nile, Dream Theatre, Death, Queensryche, Motorhead, Manowar, Helloween, Gamma Ray, Iced Earth, Bathory, and Venom.
I'm into a large range of music, from alternative/indie like Arcade Fire, Modest Mouse etc, to Death Metal like Children Of Bodom and Dethklok and I see why people really hate BMTH and stuff like that, but I think that the huge amounts of sub-genres in metal is kinda stupid, if that makes sense?.... :L
