What if I don't want to pay for the higher education of somebody else? If it were guaranteed, they would take it from me, arrest me, and generally be dicks. That is robbery, and it is a crime. It is not necessary, we get along fine without it.

Actually in a Socialist society there would be no taxes because programs would be funded from industrial surplus. Taxation, or robbery as you like to call it, is a Capitalist concept.

Besides, even if you did have two working parents it is hard to find a job these days and one or both may be unemployed.

Workers produce a certain sum. Now traditionally, that sum is then divided up by management, put into self-investing, advertisement, taxation, etc. But under Socialism management would be cut down, self-investment/advertisement would be light and not so much of a desperate struggle, and taxation would be disbanded. That leaves a fairly large sum of wealth called the Industrial Surplus. Rather than taxing the surplus and then pissing it away on the military or something, it would be used on roads, healthcare, and other social programs.
