Looks like it. Though I would suggest you think a bit more on that whole "poverty not connected with the state of the economy" thing.

A lack of motivation and trying are going to negatively effect the economy, no matter what state it's in. I believe a good amount of people under the poverty line in the first world lack said motivation, which isn't directly a result of the economy, but rather a negative mentality and social problems. Obviously poverty is connected to the economy, and I could have worded that better to get my point across, but oh well.

You're all missing the fundamental question here: what can we do to annihilate the communist ideology?

Common sense and reason won't work, because communism is built to ignore those, so we'll have to replace the ideology with something that seems more 'rebellious' so that all of the Che-shirt wearing teenagers start latching on to another, less annoying and insidious ideology. Anarchism is good enough, but anarchists have this horrible tendency to associate with communism, so it's important that we disconnect the two. Making anarchism more mainstream would take care of that, I think, but mainstream anarchism presents annoyances of its own.

The alternative is that we make communism seem much less 'rebellious' by making it as boring and dry as possible. Ignore it altogether and don't report on anything communists do, and it'll die out on its own. Provided that we can extend this indifference onto the internet, that is. Perhaps provide a tangible incentive for avoiding communist websites, like a tax credit or something.

Agh, it's difficult to think of a way to throw the communist ideology in the gutter without compromising free speech. Of course in a communist society the first thing to go would be free speech, but we can't start believing that the ends justify the means or else we'll end up just as bad as them...

I put it to you folk to come up with a way to wipe communism from the modern political discourse and leave it to the history books, where it belongs.

A combination of some of my friends opinions from another forum. They've really put thing in perspective for me.

It's false to characterize the protests as "jobless hippie losers who resent the wealthy." The protests are people who are tired of the top 1% (actually less) wealthiest people who provide no value to society and accumulate wealth by manipulating the global economy (fucking over the other 99% in the process). These aren't "job creators"...they are investment bankers and politicians who only serve their own interests at everyone else's expense.

This is what the protests are about:

One thing that everyone should be united on is the growth of the top 1-3% accumulation rate. The idea of capitalism is supply and demand. Moralistic capitalism travels cyclically. When you have an accumulation rate as out of control as the top percent, you have dead capital. That capital flows into their hands and dies. It does not move. It actually fails to contribute to society at that point. They can never actually spend what they have.

The deal citizens have with capitalism is not being fulfilled.

Also, do not let interviews with dumb people muddy this. That is like going into a classroom, finding the dumbest person and saying, "well that's political science for ya."

People taking the mainstream media's word on this are not thinking critically. Do lazy people attempt to mobilize?

This is not an issue of right or left or capitalism over communism or which ever way they want to put it. This is about people that want corporate hands off of our democracy's neck.

As a scholar of the rise of white collar work, I can tell you, the original deal has utterly broken down. The working class gave up their businesses and property for something that has drastically shifted. The idea of the company man is not being fulfilled. Whereas our grandfather's were rewarded for company loyalty, as of now, our children will switch jobs at the career level over 9 times. That really says something. The deal needs to be reworked. Captial needs to be diverted back to a strong middle class.

There aren't a lot of communists around anymore(at least in the first world) and they dont really pose enough of a threat(of a revolution) to the society to take the time and money to get rid of them.

I have an idea that is foolproof my lord. How about we reset history by erasing everyone's mind except the select few. With empty minds, we teach them the ideals of democracy and the glory of Capitalism and all the while we watch for signs of the return of the communists and whisk them away before they disturb Utopia.

Where is the idea of 1% vs 99% coming from. I'd say its more like 1% vs 80% vs 20%, because the middle class (the people there) are in it for themselves.
