It means something for pretty much all Americans. It is a reminder of a disgraceful period in our history where we were split over an issue which should have been easy to resolve given our highest national value: individual liberty. Burning the flag of that most insidious of institutions, the Confederacy, would be an event sure to draw people from miles around in my state. Don't know how other Union states feel, but in Kansas we take pride in our disdain for the Confederacy.

Satan isn't a good guy, but the God of the bible is no hero by any means. He allows his faithful servant Job to be tortured and lose everything just to settle a petty bet with Satan. Meh the North wasn't as godlike as history portrays, Jefferson, an advocate of liberty of slavery own a gigantic plantation run by slaves, and for all the 'all men are created equal' (except blacks and women) it wasn't as fantastic as we make it out to be. Some of the worst atrocities in the war such as Sherman's use of total war were committed by the north.

All this isn't to say that if i lived in America I would publicly fly the flag, but i see no reason not to own one

I think during the whole enlightenment for the "aristocrats" in America at the time he decided he'd rather not have slaves, but if he, and George Washington, decided to just drop their slaves they may have lost support from the South. Which they couldn't risk at the time as people weren't even sure if America would hold together.

Sherman was a hypocrite. "War is Hell, this is why I must burn down these civilians homes and property and possibly kill them: To save them!"

This sets the value of a human being as the same as a trinket or an animal that you own. He gave him horrible illnesses and pain as well. This was supposedly to the most good person in the entire Earth, and why? Because Satan said that he would stop worshiping him if God hurt him. Burn if you like, for burning a historic object is one thing... bashing it is another. You take pride in being a "Union" state for that was the side that your state decided to take in the American Civil War, just as we down South take pride in that flag you wish to burn.

It doesn't particularly matter that my state was a Union state. What matters is that the Confederacy was and is a hive of scum and villainy. Home to state-sponsored racism, chattel slavery, and all the wonderful contradictions that come with confederal entities. Sure, the Union isn't perfect. By why would any sane, self-respecting, half decent human support the Confederacy over the Union?

Because many did not fought for the cause of slavery, most whites in the Confederacy did not infact, own slaves and fought because they thought the Union would and did, destroy their life style. When you are told that somebody is planning to harm your area and its people in some way, are you not spurred to action or your idea of that region or group of people harmed in someway. Many people in Confederacy fought due to their love for their region rather than slavery which united the higher classes of the former nation, and not to mention that the middle and lower classes fought for their homes in process of protecting their "nation". If you would look at the issues and incidents that lead up to the war, you woud see why Southerners feared Northern control and why they hated the Union as much as they did. John Brown, for example, went on a murderious rampage throughtout the "Bleeding Kansas" ordeal and then later on attempted to creat an armed slave rebellion in Virginia that targeted whites in that state, during of which he was arrested and hung for treason but also hailed as a martyr for the cause of abolition. So, if you were a Southern white at that time, would you not be weary of the North for their support of such abolitionist men and women as Mr. Brown and their increasingly nosy interference with Southern affairs. It was not slavery that was the cause for Southern rebellion, but fear; fear and hatred.
