So the Chinese nationalists and not Mao was responsible for the second five year plan? Interesting theory you got there. Also It was the Chinese nationalists who initiated a program of repression against ... themselves... ?

You can like what Mao did, but you can't deny that my two basic points (the great leap forward, and the cultural revolution) were Mao's brain children

It's pretty much common knowledge that Mao is the force behind both of these... Their effects were devastating and horrendous, and I think that is what Che is contending.

I never said the great leap forward was not Mao's..... I gave you the fact that Mao or his party was not incharge of agriculture, grain production of the starvation. That was the nationalist party. The great leap forward was not Mao's plan to starve of millions (even though it was the nationalist party that did this to keep maximum profits) it was to give China a "Great Leap Forward" and it did. China was one of the most backwards nations at the time do to the Nationalist Party and its Capitalist policy's. Mao brought China from a almost feudal nation to a world power (that defeated America in the Korean war might I add) and even united China. No warlords or no independant "nations" within China. That had never been done before.

I've states in every one of my posts that you are free to like what the great leap forward did, but that it was Mao's doing. You're replies are "it wasn't Mao, it was the nationalists" . The second five year plan was almost solely based on agricultural collectivization, you can argue that the deaths were not directly attributable to Mao, but the agricultural policies sure as hell were. However, based off what you've been saying, you're clearly show a hint of guilt on Mao's part, otherwise you wouldn't be trying to pawn the blame off of someone else.

China did not experience significant economic growth until Deng and the semi-privatization of her industries. You can make your arguments, but empirically, China remained stagnant during Mao's years.

Also how did China defeat the US? Is South Korea part of North Korea? I'm not saying the UN won the war, but neither did China.

Che, my dad lived through that era (I'm of Chinese descent) and he has always said that that the Great Leap Forward was a massive fail , contradicting all that you're saying. There was nothing good about either the Cultural Revolution or the Great Leap Forward. Dismiss an eyewitness account, if you can. Deng Xiaoping's semi privatisations made China prosperous, Mao was an absolute disaster. The irony is you can blame Mao for the CCP turning away from a Soviet style economy.

che you do not know a lot about china do you if you think that it being one nation is a good thing and china was fully united nation before but that weakened it from being the most power nation on the planet to the plaything of the europes

"Quite a few comrades always keep their eyes shut and talk nonsense, and for a Communist that is disgraceful. How can a Communist keep his eyes shut and talk nonsense?
It won' t do! It won't do! You must investigate! You must not talk nonsense!"
    -Mao

If we confine the deaths Mao was responsible for to strictly deliberate killings (not the mass starvation), he was still responsible for 10 million deaths in his effort to suppress "counter-revolutionaries." http://necrometrics.com/20c5m.htm#Mao

Wow Che. Your pathetic attempt at wiping away my opinion because i'm 5 years younger then you is sad...

Anyways, i've read a few books on Mao. That man was just...Brutal. I hear countless eyewitness accounts of him during his reign and during the Long March, and before.

Even his 'Buddies' said that during the long march he would be in one of those little chair things, while 4 people would hold up a pole, which would make it so that he wouldn't have to walk, while everyone else did.

Not to mention, That adding to direct killings, he wiped out most of the people who brought him into power, or put them into prison.

In Summary, Mao was a pathetic, Ruthless dictator, who had to destroy his country to get any progress.

If you destroy your country it's not progress.

This is something I actually agree with Che on.

The Dalai Lama has been using a religion to manipulate the Tibetan people. They were incredibly backwards before the Chinese came. I will take the Chinese over the Dalai Lama any day.
