The dictator in exile of Tibet, The Dalai Lama, has stepped down from his 60 year rule recently and the first democratic election was held . Which is rather ridiculous because it is a government that does not exist.

So you heard it here first people, an election took place for a government that does not exist.

He was also the illegal ruler of Tibet. The Dalai Lama was the direct leader before the re-attachment to China during Mao's revolution, also a puppet ruler during British Colonial ownership.

He would not have stepped down and held an election if he wasn't.... He still remains the spiritual leader of Tibet, but he is not the head of a non-existent government anymore, Lobsang Sangay is now. Although of course he is not.

    For a non existent election*

I can't have an election in my house and claim to be the Prime minister of Canada.

The elections happened, and the government exists arguably. They don't really govern a whole lot, but they do at least call themselves the government in exile.

The title is legitimate for them as they used to rule Tibet.

    They did.

On a side note Tibet has been part of China for thousands of years. So it is China by now really.

Strangely enough, the Dalai lama is actually an advocate of Socialism.
In a book I have about him, he talks about 'Using Socialism to share our wealth' and how he thinks Socialism is a 'Good ideology'. He has also condemned Capitalist quite a lot of times.

I will have a flick through the book, though I don't remember exactly what page it was on.

Edit: The books name is "An Open Heart: Practicing Compassion In Every Day Life"
