Most of his murders were commited by his 'family' not himself making your argument illogical.

Exactly, a 74 year old can order someone's death just as easily as a 20 year old in the same position could.

The best way I could explain it would be dorm prison housing but with no empathsis on punishment, and thus more freedom for the inmates.[/quote:17k4ucxu]
So I can brutally murder your family, but should not be punished? Are you fucking kidding?

    I agree.

Well by I think it is perfectly fine to "murder" someone who has committed multiple murders on different occasions through the legal system by convicting them and sentencing them to the death penalty. However, I only support the death penalty for serial killers, not people who just go berserk all of a sudden and kill somebody out of blind rage.

Is that not what the death penalty is?

Not at all. Like I said the death penalty should be reserved for only serial killers, who their very existance is a threat to society. People like Charles Manson.

"To take a life when a life has been lost is revenge, not justice."
    -Desmond Tutu

"As if one crime of such nature, done by a single man, acting individually, can be expiated by a similar crime done by all men, acting collectively."
-Lewis Lawes, warden of Sing Sing prison in NY in the 1920s and 30s

"Capital punishment is the most premeditated of murders."
    -Albert Camus, French philosopher

"What says the law? You will not kill. How does it say it? By killing!"
-Victor Hugo, author of Les Miserables

"It can be argued that rapists deserve to be raped, that mutilators deserve to be mutilated. Most societies, however, refrain from responding in this way because the punishment is not only degrading to those on whom it is imposed, but it is also degrading to the society that engages in the same behavior as the criminals."
    -Stephen Bright, human rights attorney

"I've been haunted by the men I was asked to execute in the name of the state of Florida. This is premeditated, carefully thought out ceremonial killing."
-Ron McAndrew, was a prison warden in Florida

"I'm of the opinion that we should eliminate capital punishment. Having been involved with justice agencies around the world, it's been somewhat embarrassing, quite frankly, that nations just as so-called civilized as ours think we're barbaric because we still have capital punishment."
-Reginald Wilkinson, was a prison director in Ohio

I'm no orator, so I will let them argue for me.

I don’t think you should support the death penalty to seek revenge. I don’t think that’s right. I think the reason to support the death penalty is because it saves other people’s lives.

    GEORGE W. BUSH

How come life in prison doesn't mean life? Until it does, we're not ready to do away with the death penalty. Stop thinking in terms of "punishment" for a minute and think in terms of safeguarding innocent people from incorrigible murderers.

    JESSE VENTURA

If we are to abolish the death penalty, I should like to see the first step taken by my friends the murderers.

The death penalty is not a deterrent; crime rates have not gone down.
In fact, the murder rate in the US is 6 times that of Britain and 5 times that of Australia. Neither country has the DP. Texas has twice the murder rate of Wisconsin, a state that doesn't have the DP. Texas and Oklahoma have historically executed the most number of Death Row inmates, yet in 2003 their state murder rates increased, and both have murder rates higher than the national average.

Deterrent or not, I don't know about you but I don't want to live knowing that tons of seriel killers could escape prison and go on another killing spree. (And yes, they would continue to kill).

I like how the majority of the people you listed were released from prison legally.

Really, because the First World is run by (for the majority) Whites and the Third World is run by Blacks, Latinos, etc. I guess that means that we're superior.
How can you deny it? Their crime is higher, their poverty is higher, they live shorter lives, and the largest difference would be race and culture.

Simply throwing two statistics together doesn't make them related, you know.

It shows that it doesn't act as a deterrent very clearly.
