Irritated is the word, not defensive. Okay. Maybe a little defensive.... maybe alot. I just get tired of hearing it. It feels like an ad hominem made solely for the purpose of picking on my speech skill (or lack thereof) rather than paying attention to the message that I mean to convey. Which, whatever Kali says, is consistantly clear enough to comprehend and respond to. And I know that he (and other people) can understand what I am saying perfectly well by their responses.
So if I don't speak or write English well, I am unlearned and therefore completely unable to present an intelligent argument?
Also: I love how this thread has become about questions for me. LOL. No, I won't be answering questions.
To tag you don't add a space between the @ and the name. Yeah, I don't agree with Kali's use of ad hominem but I'd be lying if I said it didn't work in some cases. His goal is pretty much exactly what you said. If Kali points out that you can't write English well, if you can or can't is irrelevant, the people watching you debate will think less of you. That's his plan.
Does that not then show he may in such instances have lacked anything to say in reply to the original poster, which could be read as a weakness on Kali's part.
I suppose but I think he genuinely doesn't want to deal with people he views as illiterate. He's a bit of a stuck-up ass like that.
Yes, but Imperial is not illiterate in any way, shape or form. Nothing I've ever seen him post has had any errors in it. In no way am I saying my previous post is correct, just suggesting it might be the case, to stop us all descending into a big Kali-worshipping mess.
While the person Kali is debating may be completely literate, his standards are so high that any mistake, though common, is still a mistake that he would point out to his opponent. It's Kali's perspective of what is and isn't literate.
Perhaps, but many of the 'mistakes' Kali seem to have pointed out are more his opinion of what is or isn't right. He is simply trying to find any chink in his opponents armour he can. The best way is simply to ignore him, that sort of extreme correction simply doesn't deserve any attention. If anything, it should be a weakness of Kali's that he is unable to reply to a post without correcting it, which could perhaps detract from his actual argument against the post. But all of this is dependant on the views of each individual reading the post.
I disagree. Like I said, I disagree with his ad hominem approach but I've rarely seen him make a criticism that wasn't factually correct.
I have not made up my mind either way. I just think Kali should not get any attention or support for his crazy campaign of corrections.
That's why ad hominem is a fallacy. Speaking in terms of rhetoric and logic, he shouldn't get attention or support from it but as humans are not purely factual or logical beings, it can be effective.
Well, I guess you're right. I am simply lamenting it's effectiveness, and wishing more people would see when Kali is not actually answering a comment, just insulting and correcting it.
