Meh, it is a waste of money, it dehumanizes woman, and is being destroyed by the internet age.

If they choose to do that line of work, it's their choice & they have every right to pursue it.

There is a tons of free footage. And you cant say its dehumanizing women any more it is doing the same for men. In Holland - I believe - they made Porn channel for women only and its very popular.

FYI: Cant wait for 4D porn!!!

That is why i said the internet age is destroying the porn industry, free porn = no porn industry.

Also it hurts a lot to put porn and industry in the same sentence.

So Stalin has a similar set-up to a porn site? Although presumably they don't use Blip TV.

Porn is crude and boring, I watch it when I need to and I never watch it at other times.

It is untrue to say it dehumanises women, most pornstars would tell you they find it empowering, okay not all of it, some of it (and I've probably watched some of it) does not empower women but does the opposite.

That being said, I tie porn in closely with masturbation, which has many health benefits as well as other benefits. I think porn is a good thing for the most part, even if I think it is shit.

Fun fact, it is actually illegal to own porn in America... They just sentenced a NYU student to 5 years in prison for having porn in his dorm room.

It is very rare that they actually prosecute people about it, and they usually use it to shut down internet sites more then attack the individuals. But there's you're fun fact from my law class lol

Nobody knows that actually. We had a guest lecturer and she polled the class and the only 2 people (our of like 80) that knew were the TA's (who are like 4th year law students). Also it's illegal to import porn into the states, so you technically can have that confiscated at a border control point and be denied entry to the country.

The court case is Miller v California if anyone is interested in further study

Basically, its ambiguous and not really enforced on the personal level. The internet has thrown the legal system into a conniption about it, because the jurisprudence basically points to leaving it to the miller test, which is based off the notion of community standards. With the internet, you now have websites operating across multiple communities so it's hard to establish a standard. Logic would say that you take the most conservative community as the baseline but obviously freedom of speech groups are fighting against this so there isn't really a consensus.

It is rare for the government to prosecute an individual on pornography related charges (other then child pornography, which holds stricter punishments then child molestation charges), but it is technically still illegal. More often then not the government uses the law to shut down web sites or go after the industry itself.

What would you say about simply looking at it online but not downloading it or owning an actual copy of say a pornographic film?

Again, its very ambiguous and not only am I not a lawyer (meaning I can't really give legal advice) but I'm not even a law student. However, the way it was presented to me and from what little self research I've done I'd say there's a very little chance of anyone being prosecuted under the current administration.

That's weird, I've never heard of that. But yeah, obviously it's not being enforced.

That being said I'm a bit of a feminazi so I'm with Che on this one (dear lord I might move to the DPRK if I keep on like this), I do believe it should be at least discouraged. For starters, copyright lift on all pornography would be nice, maybe a ban on professionally made porn.
