I don't own and have never played Starcraft II, but I do like watching it and will buy it eventually. I'm just confused about the specific play styles of the different races. What are they? Seems like zerg is grow, expand, kick ass; protoss are tech heavy; and terran are jack-of-all-trades. Am I wrong?

Well no you're not wrong. :p

Zerg relies on corruption, fast expanding as you said. Unchecked they'll be able to get to an OP point quicker than any of the other races.

Terran relies on harassment and good unit composition. The thing I dislike most about Terran is the way you play Protoss and Zerg is completely different.

Protoss needs to stave off as much as they can to get to the late game. Late game, if given the opportunity to go unchecked and tech up they're pretty much invincible coining the term "death ball."

They're all pretty beast with their end game unit composition, the thing about zerg is they can replenish that end game army much quicker though, which is their real strength.

Stopping a Protoss death ball though is a tall order. Even if they do have creap spread throughout the entire map and brood lords and ultras qued up, it can only take you so far if you keep getting smashed as the Protoss makes its way to your main.

Forcefields, with stalkers and colossus are just deadly.

You're forgetting void rays, the air element of the protoss death ball, which has weaknesses btw. The stalkers and sentries rest under the collosi. The voids fly above. This creates an extremely cramped army susceptible to splash damage. It also isn't mobile, as they have to be together to retain their strength. Any part of that army alone is much, much weaker.

divide and conquer, which is the basic micro and meta strategy for a zerg player. Zerg have mostly quick agile units that are designed to split up an enemy and surround them.

    Also, infestors....

As day9 put it, the best counter to a Protoss death ball is to just go fucking kill them. Don't let them sit back and get a maxed out army.

Vikings for collasi, take them out early, and almost any upgraded unit composition for your ground army will work...

I play Terran, and you can play standard and beat a big scary Protoss army. The most important thing is to have a lot of goddamn vikings.

Alienware is way overpriced. Just build your own comp.

Most pros play in low detail. Less shiny things to distract them.
