This. Family Guy isn't complete shit, but its extremely overrated. Its a halfway decent show, and its huge audience comes from mostly 12 year old kids.
I can enjoy Family Guy for some of the random stupid shit they do, but South Park is actually an intelligent, satirical show that's remained consistently good for 14 seasons.
You cold hearted bastard............. I will now demonstrate how bad a show family Guy is by writing a complete episode in 5 min. Plot- Exact copy of an episode of the Simpsons. Now we need a few jokes to spice it up. *generic bad situation* Peter- This is worse than the time Michelangelo stole my umbrella! *roll nonsensical clip of the event in question* *proceed to 15 min of Peter fighting a giant Chicken* Quagmire- Is it weird if you get a boner watching the weather channel? Chris falls and hurts himself. Peter smashes a bottle over Meg's head and calls her ugly. Stewie implies he is gay (or evil if this were an older episode) Brian serves as a direct clone of Set MacFarlane and projects his opinions on an audience to young to understand them. AAAAAAAAAAAAANNNNNNNNNNND ROLL CREDITS!
Well, I'm sure that with some thinking, you could write a similar South Park scenario. Probably something with "This celebrity was in the news last week -> make fun of it through little kids who do adult stuff -> Kenny dies -> Cartman calls Kyle a filthy Jew -> celebrity gets shot in the face" Or it's like an American stand up comedy: It's either about racism or sex. Still, I find them both pretty funny, although I'd rather watch a sitcom like That 70's Show or Married...With Children.
MWC sucks.That 70's Show is halfway decent, I suppose. Neither are comparable to SP's brilliant satire.
Well, I guess it's just what you find funny, I suppose. I find South Park funny, but far from brilliant. Still, the way they criticise actualities in the most ridiculous and absurd ways is awesome. I meant the show itself isn't racist, but more that it's about racism in general.
Family guy is funny, but its pretty pointless. And when Seth tries to do political commentary, it just comes off as so over the top and awkward. Not to mention the quality of the show has gone way down hill since he basically produces every other show on fox nowadays...
South Park is either really good or super bad for me. Some I find hilarious and some I want to smash my tv while watching. Family Guy is just for laughs but no political/social commentary.
Oh, it has social commentary, alright. Every damn word out of Brian's mouth is. Its just explicitly stated, though. Its not done in a tasteful way like South Park.
Not to mention he's drunk most of the time. I agree with the statement though, two days ago, I saw a bit of an episode of South Park that was about a towel who was a drug addict and wrote a book while Oprah's vagina and anus were having a conversation...really now?
