Is Professor Farnsworth modeled after Nikola Tesla?

    Think about it:
Both men are mad scientists who are responsible for great technological advancements (Farnsworth inventing robots and Tesla inventing electric current), and both get screwed over by their employers and future nemesis (Mom and Edison). Both men also have serious mental issues and spend the last of their days working on things like death rays and other dooms day machines.

    Is this:

who the writers of Futurama were thinking of when they came up with

Tesla is often used as a template for the mad scientist in films, the whole electricity/frankenstein vibe comes across. Especially tesla coils used for decoration everywhere.

I had never really thought about it that way before. Like pants said Nikolai Tesla is used as the most common template, though the part about death machines is somewhat wrong on doctor Farnsworths part. Otherwise very interesting!

All i wanna say is that Tesla was the man!!!!.
Fluent in 8 different languages by the way: Serbian, Czech, English, French, German, Hungrarian, Italian and Latin.
He is Believed to have had OCD, kinda explains the 8 languages.
    He was never married.
Made a plan for a Death Ray weapon
But my favorite, He was in great love with his people (Yugoslavs) and a patriot of Yugoslavia.

I know alot about him, he interests me greatly, and when i was younger i visited his museum in Belgrade so many times i cant even count.

Moved to film and television as this is essentially a discussion of a character in a tv show and not one of philosophy.
