MGS 3 Snake Eater. Probably one of my favourite songs. Only because the ending of that game is so ridiculously epic.
[yt:1mzl55qo]33jk7MXZJeU[/yt:1mzl55qo] I actually have a very interesting experience with the Portal soundtrack. You see, when I first played the game I'd accidentally left a video on in my browser. It was a three hour long documentary about rainforests. So as you can imagine, there I was playing Portal for the first time and all the while I was listening to this voiceover, not realizing it was out of place. It gave a completely new inflection to the entire game. Remember that in the first half of the game no context is ever really given for why you're there or what your ultimate goal is, there's just you and GladDos's occasional joke. Instead, with this accidental voiceover, I was made to believe that somewhere down the line there would be some kind of adventure involving trees, rainforest animals, and humanity's place in nature. Throughout the first half of the game, I always thought that right behind the walls of the test chambers there would be forests with scientists in them examining the flora. About the time I entered the test chamber with all the turrets near the end, I decided to take a break from the game and go dicking around on the internet and it was only then that I realized how I'd screwed up with leaving that video on. Of course I turned the video off and went back to playing the game and realized just how different the game felt being nearly entirely silent throughout. In a way it was a good thing to have made that error, because up until that point, the game seemed relatively light-hearted so it caused a bit of a shock to suddenly have to start killing those turrets (with their child-like pleas) without a voice talking in the background. And then of course it's at that point in the game that you really begin to understand the Ratman and GladDos's vile intentions. It would be a lot like if you had just gotten out of a hot shower only for someone to throw a bucket of ice water at you. So yeah, that's my spiel about Portal.
