Do you have anybody in your family who did something important/Was in an important event? My great grandfather was a member of the original IRA during the Irish Revolution. He was diplomat sent to Liverpool to keep the Irish there under control. After the revolution, he stayed, and joined the Labour Party.
Let's see, one of my relatives was an aide de camp for Gen Georg Washington during the revolution. We had a guy who was the single largest sugar plantation owner prior to the Spanish American war in Cuba. We also had a treasurer in the early 1900s. I may or may not be related to Pat Tillman... Oh and I'm kind of a big deal
I'm related to a man in the IRA who was shot and killed, as well I'm related to a scottish settler that struck a large gold vein in B.C.
You know the painting "The Blue Boy" by Thomas Gainsborough, well the person who that is a painting Jonathon Buttall is related to me. Unfortunately he sold the painting when he got into debt and lost all our family's money... figures. Also another one of my relatives was a buccaneer. Legal piracy, gotta love it.
I bet the Spanish didn't think it was legal pirating... On the topic of painting, Edward Hicks is like 2 or three levels up from me in my genealogy. For those of you who don't know, he painted peaceable kingdom among other things...
I recently found out that one of my descendants was a Spanish sailor who was onboard a ship of the Armada when it set sail for England. His ship was sunk in the storm that decimated the fleet as it retreated across the North of Scotland where he washed up...
