I cannot stand anime. Like it drives me ka-ka-ka-krays-aaaaah! Maybe it's the eyes. Why are the eyes so HUGE? Maybe it's the fact that anime tries to portray itself as srs bsnz. I don't know. There is exactly one exception to this rule, and even then only somewhat. Ghost in the Shell is pretty great in my opinion. Looks much more 'Western' to me than 90% of that other crap.
I absolutely hate most of it but I enjoy the classics such as Ghost in the Shell, Akira, Cowboy Bebop, Serial Experiments Lain and a few others.
I like anime that avoids the stupid fucking cliches of the genre. Oh god the cliches of anime are so fucking annoying.
I said yes because most of it annoys me, but that being said there are beautiful pieces of Anime by directors such as Hayao Miyazaki and Isao Takahata, who both make beautiful films that have a lot of feeling and emotion. As for TV shows, most of the ones on Adult Swim I like. One Piece in ok. But besides that, Naruto and Bobobobobobobobo or whatever is kinda annoying.
Despise it all, when I ran an alliance or helped run a forum I banned all forms of Anime. I couldn't stop some but I was that adamant about even having it about.
I never "get it" like people with weir eyes punching each other in the face creating some magical lights and people flying everywhere to strange ass japanese song. FYI: When you have hangover, watch Italian anime. Its pure gold ='DD
While I would not go far as "despise" if I had to polarise my views I would lean closer to despise than like, I can't bear watching it, I don't get it. I don't get Japanese culture at all. But I live in the UK which doesn't have a big Anime following.
I like anime mt personal favourite is First Squad. If you hate anime try watching it or The Girl Who Leaped Through Time. The First Squad is an amine that takes place during Woerld War 2 on the Russian Front and the rest you shall discover. These don't have big eyes.
Anime is such a general concept, it’s really not even a genre, it’s more like a technique. You can like certain anime genres or even just specific shows/movies, while disliking others. It’s a bit like asking “Anyone else despise video games?”, you can love certain video games, while also disliking others, but that doesn‘t mean you despise video games. I personally don’t like most of the anime I see, but there is also a good amount I do like, it just depends on the specific show/movie, as with anything else.
Im not a huge fan of animes but i happened to really enjoyed death note and full metal alchemist but i hate when animes are dubbed into english so when they speak it sounds like they have the voices of 5 year olds which ruins badasses in animes-Unique
In fact "anime" is just the word for "animation" in Japanese (loan word obviously). So if you take the original sense of the word instead of the meaning it came to have in the west (i.e. japanese cartoons) it would be like asking "Do you like animation?".
I don't think I'm not that much of a pedant =P It's just that I study english and linguistics and all that so I can't help being a little nitpicky
