Yea, its suprising who many people fall for that myth. On the other hand, US infantry divisions were practically motorized divisions. They just never classified them as such.

I'd have to re-read the book to tell you for sure, but there were loads of things the Celts did better than the Romans.

Actually Caesar might have actually said that since it was quote from a play he liked, at least thats what I've gathered. But it could very well be bullshit to

These are the 300s BC. Yes, they did, it said it in a book I have about the Roman Military.

As I said before, around the 300s BC.

I assume they meant the Gauls then, because if I'm not mistaken, the Celts were mainly in Britain, which would mean that in 300BC Rome wouldn't have even been close to meeting them.

Actually, after looking it up, it's perfectly possible, I had some stuff mixed up, then.

Well I guess the armor is similar to Celtic ones but I do know for fact that the helmet was from celts (or gauls what ever you want to call them) picture of principe "class" soldiers below. Roman army used that armor as long as the Manipular system was in place, it went away after marian reforms. Well partly actually, Caesars troops and others used that mail armor and shield but the helmet was a Imperial helmet. It went fully away under Augustus. But the armor came later in 300-400 ad. If this is the armor you are talking about, eh...

Myth: King George III was a tyrant and is one of the worst kings ever (American Sterotype)
Fact: By the time of 1776 the Monarchy of Great Britain wasn't even close to what its usually painted as in America. By 1776 the King of Britiain had little power compared to pre-1688. The grievences of the coloniest can be pointed more directly to Lord North, leader of the British government at the time, who instituted many of the policies that caused the revolution. Finally King George III's reign is acutally one of the more sucessful reigns in British history as it established British hegemony over much of the world following the Napoleonic Wars.
    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Myth: George B. McClellan ran on a "End the War" Policy in the 1864 election.
Fact: While certainly bitter over getting canned by Lincoln he was a still a strong-war supporter, he just thought he could do it better, and would most likely have continued it. It was the Democratic Party that opposed the war, which is why the Democrats ran a peace-canditate George Pendelton alongside him and letout proganda that McClellan would have ended it.
    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Myth: All Union Generals were outclassed by all Confederate Generals
Fact: The only reason this myth exists is because the whole focus of the war was in the east where coincidently all the good southern generals were and all the shitty union generals were. However in the west the situation was completely reversed. Would anyone try and seriously argue that Braxton Bragg was better than Sherman or Grant. So all in all both sides were probably evenly matched in terms of generalship, with the North taking a slight lead.

Myth: William of Orange's last words were: "Mon Dieu, ayez pitié de mon âme; mon Dieu, ayez pitié de ce pauvre peuple." (My God, have pity on my soul; my God, have pity on this poor people.)

Fact: William's heart was pierced by one bullet and that probably resulted into an inmediate death. And therefore he couldn't have spoken his last words.

I'm not sure but I think the body armor/armour came from the Celts/Gauls.

Myth: the USA was the country responsible for the Allied victory in WW2

Truth: They weren't totally responsible for it.. All nations had a part to that victory.

Now that I think about it, didn't they incorporate pieces of Gallic equipment in the design of their helmets?

Myth: Polish Calvary charged German Tanks in WW2
Fact: Maybe if this was set in ww1 where tanks were still in the development stage this could be believable. But serriously I don't think a Polish commander is going to charge top of the line German tanks with just outdated calvary. No one is that stupid. This myth is even more questionable because the first record of this was published by the German Propaganda Ministry. The real story is that Polish Calvary charged German infantry but was driven off by advancing armored vehicles.

I heard that polish cavalry rode into a defensive position and then dismounted and engaged enemy infantry and then were driven off by armored vehicles, and from that the German propaganda ministry got their story :p
