Honestly I think this is a pretty serious problem. Is it telling us something we don't know? No to us, but that probably won't be the case for many of the people who read that article. Games are never going to be accepted and taken seriously if this continues.
You're mostly right, but again why should girls have to stay silent? They didn't do anything to deserve the special hate.
Why does it have to be that way? I hate how widespread verbal abuse is on public voice chat (for both genders), but I find it stupid that most bystanders decide to just ignore the whole thing, as though it isn't important. In my opinion, people who do that aren't a lot better than the people who start it. Communication with the people you're playing with/against can make the game a whole lot more fun. Back when I used to play CoD on console back in the CoD 4 days, I would use my headset and communicate. I would play team based game types and try to get my team to co-ordinate a bit. Call out where the enemies are, compliment good play, go for the win. And you know what? A lot of the time, it worked, and when it did it made the game so much more enjoyable. My friends list (which has a capacity of 100, and I only used about 8 real life friend slots) was always full and I kept getting friend requests from random people who enjoyed playing with me. I wish people would stop accepting defeat on this issue.

I'm not trying to attack you directly Batallion, but you're the only one to present a real response and it seems to reflect the views of most people here. Seems kinda pointless though, most are somewhat chauvinist, flippant and immature.

It's funny, how they are not able to ask a girl out but behind their mic they act all tough and mighty ,im glad my sweetheart is obsessed with sims and old mmorpg . She would probably annihilate them and my controllers if they dare to talk to her like that on a videogame!

I don't think this would be ideal for a game such as Call of Duty today, unless you were with a small private group of friends and only speak to that group of friends. Sure, it does work in many other games and I do use my headset and communicate with others in my team when playing Battlefield or games that really work well with this idea, but in Call of Duty, there's not much I can do with that.

I don't encourage specific gamers to be quiet just to avoid attention, but I am questioning why one would wish to speak to someone who will verbally abuse them.

Yeah I love people who talk trash over a video game it gives me laughs, I was on Mw2 one day and went up against some crappy sniper clan, Quick scoped two of their dudes for the final kill and the last guy I killed got really pissed. before the video began he was like Hardscoping faggot ! Then when the killcam came on and he saw I didn't hardscope he was cursing me out and went 1v1 me man ! You hear me ? 1v1 me ! I was laughing hard.

I also realize dude's do act werid around girl gamers, when ever im in a party with one the dudes usually talk to them alot and make jokes. And I don't mean in a casual way I mean like a get to know them type of way. I don't know how to explain it but you can tell it's flirting. Also in games, (Especially Uno. Yeah I play Uno online get on my level kids lol) if a girl joins the game it usually comes down to some dude flirting with her then going. Takes off your clothes !

I also love the hate people have toward's little kids on online games. I started online gaming when I was 12 years old, my first game was City Of Villians and I payed for it with my allowance I loved that game lol. Anyway I named my character Head Taker. (Which I would later come to regret not knowing of how people could make jokes of that.) Anyway I played for awhile and things were fine. Until I came across a group of two dudes who were very nasty to people. I tried to play the whole yeah whatever card, but after awhile of abuse I found my self actually cursing at the fuckers. And I was only 12 years old anyway some other people joined heard me cursing laughed because I had the voice of a little girl at the time. And went on to call me a snot nosed brat, even though the other people started it and weren't letting up in their insults. I got kicked from the supergroup or guild as their commonly called and ever since then, I have had a respect for little kid gamers. Unless their assholes off the bat.

I do think something should be done about it, but you can't really do much about it. In real life if a person called you a insult you'd get up in their face tell em off, walk off, whatever. But in a online game you don't know these people. They could be in a different country for all you know lol. I mean what are you going to do call the cops ?

" Hello my gamertag is X and B was just called me a camping noob faggot I want him sued for harassment charges ! * crys * "
