Well GAZ-2975 "Tigr"hasn't seen any combat so its hard to say. But I favor the humvee just because its seen a lot of combat and has been successfully upgraded many times to reflect the combat situations. (btw humvee is slowly being phased out of action)
yes that is the biggest problem in comparing the 2, I suppose i mean on paper. Really i just posted this because i have experience with the Tigr and forgot that most people wont know what its capeable of as it hasnt seen much action. Im thinking of puting a thread about good ol military trucks, should be more interesting and a lot more options, sound good?
thank you friend i ask thelistner to not judge for it as most people do, i generaly dont tell people im from yugoslavia on forums if i dont have to as they put me in a catagory straight away.
Yugoslavia was a battlground for a long time, the serbs were very aggressive, they have a bad reputation.
I dindt mean to insult you, i dont know you, but since i see your Finnish maybe my comment was unnecesary (you Finns have a reputation for being good and un-predjudiced people in general here). Westerners tend to hold predjudices against people from Yugoslavia, even to a greater extent than Russians, due to the recent conflicts and so on, especially if they are from Serbia (even if theyre not Serbs). thats all. Anyway, when i spent time with the GAZ-2975 i found it surprisingly modern for a Russian vehicle, and altohugh it is quiet different to the Humvee, it seemed a good opponent to the Humvee's title of the best multi purpose(so to speak) vehicle. Carries 10 people comfertably, has pretty good armor especially with upgrades, can go pretty fast (my uncel took it to 144kph on a road) fords a good amount of water (i think 1.3 is about the max depth), great over rugged turrein, and surprisingly modern and complicated for a russian vehicle.
Well GAZ-2975 "Tigr"is only 7 years old, compared to humvee that is 28 years old and humvee upgrades can only go so far. So I think the humvee replacement's would make a better comparison, like the cougar and International MaxxPro. But then again humvee will be in service for a long time...... So yea perhaps the GAZ-2975 "Tigr" is better but then again it has no combat record (hopefully never will have) so its a hard comparison
Yeah the combat record is the biggest drawback in comparing them, one would have to look around for Spetsnaz and MVD reports of how the Tigr preformed for them, if there are any. Im just going on my own experience, its just that i was so surprised by it , i really wasnt expecting anything half as complicated from Russia (used to the old: stuff from west complex does more stuff but less reliable and stuff from east very simple but you could bet your lif on it). But i guess i should have considering the time differnece. The Humvee wont disappear soon, at least another 5 years as the standard vehicle(only and amateur estimate though), and its still quiet up to date, its biggest threat probably being the MaxxPro. in facty i should have made that the question, MaxxPro vs Tigr, but i never had experience with the MaxxPro or talked to any friend/aquaintance who has and it didnt pop to my mind. Interesting fact, if you look up who uses Humvees, Russia has 8 which were captured of the Georgians. hehe.
For the record the humvee has been replaced almost 100% by the MRAP in combat operations. Looks a bit light, so the proper comparison would be between the 1st or 2nd gen of armored humvees. In that case I'd go with the GAZ simply because it can hold almost a complete infantry squad and leave a gun/driver team as opposed to the humvee which only seats 5
Really? I heard mrap had replaced all US vehicles in Iraq, but never heard it has replaced all humvees (in Afghanistan) in combat operations.
By the Stats the Tigr is really outclasses the Humvee in cost and weight to speed ratio but it can be becouse the Humvee is older. Also comparted to the Tigr the Humvee looks like the cubliar old Lada cars.
i didnt know that the process of changing from the Humvees was so near completion. Lada forever!!!!!!
Yep. I think they're still used on some roads where MRAPS can't go but by and large humvees are only used on bases
Well its good news, MRAPS can take more pounding from IEDs. I just thought you guy would keep them in combat operations longer, considering the cost of MRAPS and your recent military budget guts.
