I myself prefer strait out fantasy, but I do love a good space opera.

I don't know if this is what Rom is talking about but:
I think what he is trying to get at is that magic=technology and vise versa.
Basically, all sci fi is is people with magic and all fantasy is people with really advanced technology.

I don't particularly subscribe to the belief, but I can see the point.

I suppose that makes sense. But the genres are very different.

Science fiction is fiction using science and technology they tell a fiction story.
Fantasy is fiction using magic and monsters to tell a fiction story.
Both are fiction therefore fall under the classification of being fiction.

    Erego there are the same.

I like both, the first book I ever read (outside literature forced upon me by school, fuck you Goethe, Schiller and Lessing!) was a Perry Rhodan book frommy father.
I currently read the "Song of Ice and Fire" series, my favourite fantasy series. My favorite SciFi saga is "Dune".

They sub genres, so they are not the same. And even if you want to put them in the same category you now what he is talking about. It's pretty easy to fnd differences between Star Wars and Lord of the Rings.
Anyway I think science fiction is better, Don't now why I like spaceships more then orcs I guess.
