Grab a screenshot of your desktop and throw it down. I'm fairly certain there was an older thread like this, but it's long gone by the wayside, so do stuff here. Also, as OP, I will create a spoilered catalog in this post to make it easy for people to see who posted what when, unlike the disorganized chaos that reigns in the picture thread. I'd ask that you please upload the screenshot to imgur as it will simplify cataloging.

I use Rainmeter and a number of custom skins on my desktop. I also removed all icons and the Windows taskbar, purely for the sake of aesthetics. Featured in my desktop are, going counter-clockwise from the top left, an animated CPU monitor, a replacement for the start button that includes various gauges to inform you of system performance, an animated WinAmp media player, a Rainmeter icon to replace the default trash bin, a networking information app, an animated weather and temperature gauge, a simple date app, a three-dimensional digital clock, a Ghost in the Shell inspired clock, and my personal favorite, the Quote of the Minute application. I also have some of these skins set to be translucent unless moused over: the CPU monitor, WinAmp media player, and networking information app.

Like you, I keep my desktop minimalist. I found myself seldom using the icons and even less with the excellent Windows 7 start menu search function, so I removed all of them. I used to use Rainmeter, but again, I found myself not needing it - I don't need to have my PC's load status on my desktop, but I do like being able to see the date and time without having to go to the desktop. I thought the quotes were mostly crappy or corny as well.

I have a dozen or so desktop backgrounds at one time, and they automatically rotate every 15 minutes. I change these sets every couple of weeks. They are all very high quality screenshots from games - the true quality is a lot better than it looks in the screencap, JPEG compression and upload makes it look a lot worse. I dabble in "video game photography ", which involves hacking your monitor, graphics card drivers and game files to enable games to run at very high resolutions (I normally capture at 3840 x 2160, and then downscale to 1440 or 1080) and at detail levels beyond what is normally possible to get awesome looking screenshots. All of the desktop backgrounds I use are either my own or by fellow photographers. I'll insert links to some of the best examples.

Better rap groups, you don't know Big L do you. It is not a rap group, he is the greatest rapper that has ever lived.

I usually have more icons, but I had to format my PC, so yeah... (I also love navigation).

Well, here's the picture. I don't have much on my desktop, though.

You're supposed to take a screenshot of your desktop, not provide a picture of your desktop background.
