These are not yet 100% proven to exist but have captured the eyes of scientists and time travelers alike. Wormholes allow u to travel a very long distance in the speed of light I believe (not entirely sure) What I do know however is tht if we can obtain one it might make time travel possible...Also, what if we made one? If we could find what was necessary to create a wormhole than the possibilities are endless :D

They will make time travel possible, but as the great Steven Hawking says, going to the past is impossible, and I belive they will send us into the future.

IF we go to the past somebody is going to fuck something up.

Which is why I am glad it is a scientific impossiblity.

Does this really belong in the Political/Current Events Coffee House section?

    lol

Wormholes are unopenable. Do you even know what they are? It is a squeezing of space time so that it becomes so small you can take a shortcut through it, essentially. You need massive amounts of gravity to bend space time, and it's just essentially impossible.

I would like a "Hawking is overrated, the uncertainty principle is misunderstood and quantum physics is a mockery of modern science, HAIL EINSTEIN!" option...

Well no, if it's possible it probably already would've been done some time in the future. But there are Historical Anomilies we just no nothing about. For instance, at the Battle of Marathon the entire Persian Cavalry just disappeared and we don't know what happened to it.

Pot idea here, but maybe a 'timetraveler' came back, somehow destroyed the Cavalry and if the Cavalry was there the Persians would've won and taken over Greece.

It seems like the sorta thing a TimeTraveler could screw up.

Yes, because he would really want to do that... not kill Hitler or anything but make the Persian cavalry dissapear.

Theoretically possible, and Time travel is also theoretically possible.

I mean you are talking some serious physics here. How many of us are actual physicists on this forum? I would contend not many, if any.

Time travel in a forward motion seems a lot more plausible than time travel backwards using current physical models.
However that is not to say backwards travel cannot happen at all. One of the theories state that the reason our past cant be changed is because it has always happened this way. That is to say that if someone travelled into our past. It was always going to happen and they could not hope to change anything at all. It's kinda a mindbender.

I don't know if that is the strongest case though. It is just one theory. The one I really like for backwards time travel is the multidimensional theory combined with it.

Basically when you go into the past and change something. Rather than have a butterfly effect type situation, or what you are doing is preordaned to happen anyway. What happens is you create an alternate timeline for yourself from your point of view. The people in your original timeline go on with you having disappeared, but the people in the alternate timeline that you have created go off in a different direction. It's multidimensional theory. The new Star Trek flick (regardless of what you thought of it) used that theory of time travel, as opposed to the sort of time travel we saw in the Star Trek TV shows.

It's hard to argue for or against, since it is all theoretical. It IS however interesting to think about.

I'll be in the TARDIS :)

I don't believe wormholes exist, or atleast they'd be out of reach because they would have to be atleast one more dimension than our 3D world. The way a wormhole would work is that it would bend the whole universe, kind off like in an C curve, and create a shortcut between the universe. This is physically impossible, the only way it would be possible is if there was another direction, another dimension, that would prove to be much shorter than our others. Though actually it wouldn't be possible that way either.

Anyhow, I don't believe you can travel back in time, for many reasons; you would have to reverse the whole universe, every reaction would have to go backwards, 2 would have to be 1+1 instead of 1+1 being 2, the universe would have to shrink instead of expand. That is one reason, but then I also don't think you would be able to travel backwards in time by traveling at a specific speed, because that means you should be able to go at a negative speed and that's not possible.

    Call me crazy.

Though, if I'm not completely wrong, what you are describing there isn't the 'multidimensional' theory, since a dimension is not another world but merely another 'direction'.

Edit: Woops, thought I wasn't on facepunch, didn't mean to dubblepost.

Protip, spacetime is curved, its possible to bend it enough that you can move two points closer together. Try to imagine the quintessential pool table with indents in it, but indents in a 3D fabric.

Forwards time travel happens everyday*, good ole relativity. Backwards travel is more of a fantasy, but dont hold your breath.
