What do you mean by "evil". And Russians killed 5.5 million German (Not axis) soldiers, while all western allies (only) 1.8 million. To western allies credit how ever, they took 100 000 more Axis prisoners if I'm not mistaken. This mostly is due to their fear of Soviet captivity.[/quote:wpn350ea] You're discrediting General Winter and his fierce band of warriors called hypothermia.
During "The Great Patriotic War" there was no geografical stalemate. Front lines were moving all the time. And if you talk about stalemate in sence of that neighter wins is not right way to look at it, because this was war of extermination and unconditional surrender for the loser. I put my money on Russians, because of the logic: You cant beat Russians, but they can beat you. (In my previous comment I said that to win any war you need to take the country or make so that enemy dont want to resist. In this case Germany cant to neighter unlike Russians) I'm discrediting German leadership & equipment. Winter was there for Russians and Germans, but only other had his Air force running, tanks moving, guns working and on top of practical issues he was also warm. PS. Winter comes only once a year
I feel bad for the Russians in the end. They lost over 20 million lives overall. that's harsh. so saying there brutal for killing 5.5 million Germans is hypocritical. The Germans would win the war with russia if they had deployed the millions of other troops to the eastern front. but they didn't so now there is no National socialist Germany.
let me tell you about the allied bombing of Dresden. it was valentines day and all the children were dressed in their circus uniforms, it was a day for everyone to forget about the war and relax. suddenly engines were heard and allied planes were upon the city, fire bombs were dropped, yet the air defence did not respond. once markers were place in the sky the planes took off and tried to shoot them down, but the heavy Lancaster bombers didn't need the markers, the fire cyclone could be seen 20 miles away as it was swept through Dresden by the midday breeze. once the Lancaster bombers arrived the buildings crumbled and the raid sirens were blaring, once the bombers were gone the fighters came upon the city, they slaughtered the survivors trying to find food, the children were found dead in their bright uniforms. this story chills my blood even though the Germans bombed London many times, but this is inhumane.
it was evil. sure the Germans bombed our cities but they never massacred people in the streets with machineguns
yes they did. the slums of Warszawa is prime example. they just massacred 90% of the Jewish population in Poland. then marched onto Russia for 20 million+. you don't think there were a few kids in their? and i support Germany in most actions. the bombing of Dresden is little compared to the millions of others. Yes it's an awful story, but how different is it in the big picture?
The Soviets killed 4 million German civillians, not to mention other Soviet atrocities to the young girls of Germany.
WHAT? Not only you are trying to make Soviets look bad (oh the irony) but you are also making stuff up. 150 000 German civilians died due to Soviet forces and its allies. This includes casualties due to military actions. Allied areal bombardment killed more people (370 000) and killed because of Nazi ideology 400 000 (including 160 000 Jews) Are you really trying to make soviets the bad guys? You are unbelievable.
@Deadtrap In no way am I trying to make the Soviets look bad, that is not my intent... and saying the Soviets are the "good" guys in abit of an overstatement considering what they did and their crimes against humanity, and I am NOT saying the Germans were the good guys, because that is definantly not the case. Also 4,000,000 German civillians were casualties throughout the war... though saying the Soviets killed all of them might be an exaggeration, but looking more into this I found that atleast 2,500,000 civillians were killed by the USSR & Allies, but mostly by the USSR. Edit: World War II isn't my strong point, so I could be a little off, on these figures.
One verifiable fact on the matter is that more Nazi collaborators came from the USSR both proportionally and nominally than from any other nation. And Stalin had a "boys will be boys" stance on the issue...
Maybe if he had a "if you go i'll shoot you in the head stance" world war 2 would have had just a couple less casualties.
they were both bad guys. The Soviet Union did well in defeating Nazi Germany, but also commited crimes durng the war. It doesn´t mather if they did in lesser number. What matters is that they also did.
I'm gonna try and get sentimental (i guess is the word here?) so listen up. Isn't killing inhumane enough?! to take away somebody's life isn't just harming them, it's harming everyone that knew, love, and cared for that person. You didn't just kill that person, you stabbed all the others in the chest of this persons loved one. stop the killing. please... for little timmy. sorry, i just could't keep it up at the end.
