What do you guys think about the proposed Jobs act? I think it's a step in the right direction.

You can read about the plan here: http://www.americanjobsact.com/

A summary if you're too lazy to open the link:

BY fucking christ they were going to lay off 280,000 teachers!? Their education system is screwed as it is!

I'm not sure about most of this, the small business one is interesting though. I'm not sure how much money the US get's from small business in compared to the rest but this should help a bit I think.

Gotta be careful though, that debt ceiling is still existent, even if a little higher.

Any of this stuff remind people of the new deal?

Exactly. I don't understand the logic: less teachers=good for economy?

That's the comparison a lot of people have been making, and it makes me feel warm and fuzzy inside.

I just thought of something. This will probably turn out similar to the proposed healthcare bill. Conservatives will crawl out of the woodworks and cry and scream about "teh ebil fascist-socialist-islamist-communist government," until it gets repealed or watered down into non-effectiveness.

How, exactly, do they plan to pay for this without deficit spending?

Where what is? Teachers thing is on the front page under number 2 I believe, 1 is small business cuts.

But anyway I think the most interesting thing is the planned investment in infrastructure.

Lmao i never said he didn't im just pointing out what was said in the speech. number 5 on the website is this.

"5. FULLY PAID FOR AS PART OF THE PRESIDENT’S LONG-TERM DEFICIT REDUCTION PLAN

The President will release a detailed deficit reduction plan in the coming days that will pay for every penny of the American Jobs Act and include additional deficit reduction sufficient to stabilize our debt as a share of our economy. He will also call on the Joint Committee come up with the additional deficit reduction necessary to pay for the American Jobs Act and still meet their deficit target."

I guess in the coming days we will get to see how it will work. And i don't ever think i called you insane so ill let you mull that one over yourself.

    Someone said about the teachers.
The government's logic on this is that 280,000 teachers they lay off is 280,000 teachers they don't have to pay anymore

Tax cuts for businesses are good and all, but I really don't see how that encourages them to hire more people. A business hires the right number of employees to meet demand. Having extra cash does not cause a business to hire, but a business that has a demand for what it does will find the money to hire. Businesses want customers, not tax cuts.

Here's the thing though, when they say tax cuts they're really talking about tax credits or grants to business. How business are eligible is by hiring new workers. A lot of states already have plans like this in place, and while the data is mixed in their effectiveness, I think it represents a clear net positive.
