OPs shouldn't even have the right to call for thead locking. If the thread is truly off-topic and such the mods already can lock it. If it takes the OP actually going on and telling the mods to do their job that's a failure of the modship to police threads.

There's no instance, besides past events, where I can see a locking needed to be called by the OP in this current system.
As for past events they could be locked when the event has passed for 48 hours. Tech help could be locked as soon as all problems announced in the thread have been resolved.

I concur mostly, I could see this rule being used to stifle discussion, I can see some times when an OP could justify locking a topic, in tech help or something but 99% of the time I agree that starting the discussion doesn't mean you own it.

By the time he has a justification the mods should've picked up the scent and locked it on their own.

It is possible, in fact it's easy apparently. That being said I still think it is a bad idea.

Would a majority in favor convince you otherwise? If so, mind if we just let the poll run a day or two before you make a final decision?

If this was passed through the current system like any other legislation then it will be implemented.

So I need to find a Tribune to support it?

I think it should be added. OPs currently do have the right to lock their threads.

Well then... If Ler or Ronald want this one, it's up for grabs.

Edit: Looks like Ronald is on the case.

No you need to find a Tribune to support it, then wait two weeks for your perfectly reasonable idea to be deliberated by each and every Senator before it *possibly* gets passed.
Or you could be a mod and submit your idea for every other Mod to instantaniously agree on and it get it up in less than a few days.

Oh well, at least our Tribunes are trying to follow the public. Except me of cource, I'm appaenly "to crazy to be listened to".

    I love you link.

Anyway Kara, ye of little faith and all that. It seems that this will likely get passed (despite my better judgement)

I'm waiting for one of the mods to lock the thread because "it has been resolved".

It's a good edition to the current system, but the current systm needs to be improved, building on it doesn't help.
