With that mentality the American political system will never have any legitamacy.

wait what? winner take all elections gravatate to a two-party system, the party system of today reflects the majority views of today even in canada with there alleged 4 part system only 2 parties ever got to head the goverment. however you could try to organize something like the Anti-saloon leage, where they would get 5-10% of the population of each state to only back prohabition canditates, with a whole lot of effort you could try the same political tactic to try to make america more leftest. You may want the alternate voting system (i don't know about you personally but it's a popular idea on these forums), which Georgia basically has- a canidate has to get 51% of the vote or it goes to a run-off and the two party system hasn't changed a whole lot.

Well at least we have a choice of 5 parties that have seats in the government which even of they don't have a majority they can still voice their opinions.

your technically right but right now there are only 4 Bloc Québécois, and one girl from the Green Party, a little bit higher than the amount of independents in congress. and I know the liberals and NDP have about 23% of parliament each. But from my limited knowledge of Canadian governmental positions there basically the same as a blue dog democrat and a democrat (in that one is simply more liberal than the other) so in a way its kind of like there in the same party.

Well here even with a majority will take suggestions from other parties if that's what people want even if it's against their own parties plans.
