    Prime Minister Putin and President Medvedev denounced the resolution, yes. However, it is astronomically unlikely that they will perform any sort of military action to dissuade the USA, UK, France, Norway, Denmark, Spain, Italy, Qatar and the UAE from taking this military action against Libya.

    Western countries have planned this event that is happening in Libya weeks ago, maybe even months. NATO supplied the Rebels weeks before, when the rebels are fully supplied, than they start rebelling against Gaddafi's regime. Notice On T.V, you see footage of the Rebels carrying AK47, AK74, weapons that don't relate the US, it's so obvious that their hiding the Western weaponry, and just show of Post Soviet weaponry to make it look like the Rebels captured the weaponry from Libyan government forces, and also make it look like the Americans haven't started the rebellion in anyway. Also UN were begging to start a military campaign in Libya, and they've sort of got it with the no fly zone. Soon NATO troops will be petrolling the ground, making it a full military ground operation.

    The imperialist are spreading Democracy once again, and also trying to snatch the all important OIL!

    Exactly, The US and NATO are supporting an armed insurrection in Eastern Libya, with a view to justifying a "humanitarian intervention".

    This is not a non-violent protest movement as in Egypt and Tunisia. Conditions in Libya are fundamentally different. The armed insurgency in Eastern Libya is directly supported by foreign powers. The insurrection in Benghazi immediately hoisted the red, black and green banner with the crescent and star: the flag of the monarchy of King Idris, which symbolized the rule of the former colonial powers.     US and NATO military advisers and special forces are already on the ground. The operation was planned to coincide with the protest movement in neighbouring Arab countries. Public opinion was led to believe that the protest movement had spread spontaneously from Tunisia and Egypt to Libya.

    Whilst it is highly likely that the US and other Western Powers have been supplying the Rebel forces with munitions and funds, I find it hard to condemn them for pre-meditating the strikes. The job of a military commander is to devise strategies that will win wars for their nation. For weeks we have been looking at Libya and thinking "We should probably do something..." The top brass of the US Armed forces have probably had the cruise missile stike/CAP plan laid out for weeks. In fact, the USS Mount Whitney had been heading towards Libya with an amphibious assault group over a week ago.

    It's just their job. Whether they executed the plan or not, the plan was there.

    Again, it is not the job of America and France to intervene in a Civil War. The only reason they did intervene was because national public opinion was in Gaddafi's favor and the rebels were outnumbered and being pushed back and cornered.

    I honestly hope there is civil unrest in America, something near that of Libya, then we will see who uses live ammunition against protesters.

    When Gaddafi even addressed Mr. Obama on this too, Mr. Obama had nothing to reply with because he too knew that he, and any other leader of any nation for that matter, would do the same. If people using live weapons against you and your government is not probable cause for using force against them, then what is?

    So let's recap here. Rebels are equipped with AK 47's the most widely available and traded gun in the international market, and the assumption there is that those aren't the weapons they're using, and that they are secretly hiding their weapons for photo ops? That's pretty insane man.

    Even though I don't agree with it, it is conceivable that the rebels had some western funding and influence and used that to acquire AK's, but why on earth would they go through the trouble of acquiring both sets of weapons, having the ammunition for both, and then only use one? That doesn't make any sense man.

    On the general topic though, why are we to assume that this was Western funded? Obviously you and Che and other guys are going to jump to that conclusion, and that's fine based on your ideological preferences. But I challenge you to look for actual evidence as to any of this taking place. We can talk in philosophical constructs, and I can make detailed and concise arguments about how this is all a martian plot to gain a foothold in Northern Africa, but that doesn't make it true. Until you can show evidence of something (hell I'd even take a lone Wikileak) it's a little immature to make those sort of assumptions. Again, I'm not saying don't ask these sorts of questions, but look for answers, don't assume them.

    He is welcome to stay here and contribute as long as he likes. For those of you pissed off about it I pose you this question... Has he not, even for a second, made you closely re-examine your own beliefs? I mean there's two basic reactions to something you disagree with, either you a) try to disprove that opinion, or b) try to bolster your own. In both cases you are learning and advancing yourself, which is why it is helpful for your personal development to associate with people with diverse opinions.

    And let's not infringe upon Che or anyone's else right to express themselves here, while we don't really have a stated set of rules or a code of conduct I'm not going to tolerate basic personal attacks as long as I have that green coloring to my username...

    The first part of the clip was taken from an old Wesley Clark video where he was talking about pre Iraq war US foreign policy. A ton of the clips were from Bush et co talking about justifying the Iraq war. None of this talks about a conspiracy to overthrow Ghadifi... It's not even really the focus of the video. Most of the video is trying to show how the media is overstating the scope of the rebellion, which doesn't indicate a western conspiracy to overthrow Ghadafi.

    It shows all the false information they had on Iraq, but they were able to get away with it by swaying public opinion. Just like they have in Libya. In only a few years time people will start regretting the Libyan invasion just as they have Afghanistan and Iraq.

    I feel like we can go into another thread to talk about Iraq/Afghan, but the situations were very different. Bush used a patriotic fervor, and perhaps some shady misinformation (it's debatable what Bush and some of the hire ups actually believed when they were making their arguments) to justify regime change based on their preconceived ideological beliefs. Obama kind of fell into this situation and has played catch up to the rest of the West as public opinion in America has neared a boiling point. Obama is no neocon, and relations between the US and Libya have generally been in a positive direction since 03 so there isn't really any fact based reason to believe in a conspiracy to overthrow Ghadafi.
