Chinese speak English and everyone else speaks English, unfortunately that is how it is. I remember being shocked by the amount of people speaking English when I was on holiday in Turkey but I put it down to the fact that I was in an area with alot of tourists. It turned out that to get a high paid job, even one with minimal interaction with foreigners like a doctor, English was necessary. With that sort of attitude toward I doubt it will change any time soon, and I assume it is a similar situation in other countries.

Actually English has 1.5 billion speakers. Mandarin has more native speakers.

Chinese people aren't obliged to speak English. Most of them choose to, but with the economic growth of China I can see them changing their minds. That being said, the status of English will never change in our lifetime and probably not for some time after that, but it will eventually be replaced by the huge amount of silly Chinese people.

As for Turkey, of course they do. Turkey loves English-speakers. If I remember correctly, Turkey is relying on the UK to get it into the EU.

Yup, that's pretty much true... France and Germany didn't and I guess they still don't really like the that, but prime minister Cameron thinks that's better for Turkey to become member of the EU.

So basically parts of the world I never will or want to visit. Germany, well, I study a few kilometres from the border. I mean, I suck at both, but if I had to choose, it'd be German.

Probably because of countries like Canada, Brazil, Mexico and the rest of the continents.

But seriously, I've seen this video where people in the US were asked if they could name a country starting with "U". None of them could give an answer. Now, I assume they took out the footage where people answered "Uruguay" or "Our own country, you idiot", but quite a few people couldn't answer such a question. Oh, and if you thought that was the only question, nope, there are tons of videos like this. Even though you could do this virtually anywhere, most of these are recorded in the US. Now, when you count the US citizens that regularly use the internet, you'll probably see a massive rise in intelligence.

I honestly doubt that the majority of the people that person polled did not know the answer. The fact that somebody said a triangle had four sides leads me to believe it is fake to begin with, but if it is not, he obviously cut the vast majority of the people he polled.
