The Republican race for nomination has seemed to be close to ending as another candidates drops out. Newt Gingrich provided a threat to Mitt Romney only in the southern states, but with him out Romney is guaranteed to catch them all. Ron Paul will have to rely on a protest vote to keep up, he has the money, but surely not the manpower as more and more people submit to Romney.

Gingrich was one of the last anti-Romney candidates. He made an impact on his debates, but unlike other candidates which pointed fingers, Gingrich was rather polite (unless you mention his ex-wives in the first question at one). He patiently waited as all the anti-Romney candidates rose and fell. First Bachmann (because she is annoying and is a bimbo), then Perry (as Elephant Watcher, a pro-Republican website entirely based on the 2012 election put it; "he may go down as one the worst debaters in history"), then Cain (sexual harassment scandal). After him, it was Gingrich, who made a pledge to do his best to not attack people in debates was attacked ruthlessly. He made no attack ads for the Iowa Caucus and payed for it when Romney and the already declining Perry unleashed an arsenal of ads that ruined him. Rick Santorum than came to light for a brief moment, but Gingrich was polling well in South Carolina and called for Perry and Santorum to drop put. Perry saw it for the best and did with an endorsement for Gingrich, but Santorum stayed. By now, Romney, Santorum, and Paul attacked Gingrich at the debates, Gingrich was forced to fight back. By the time of Florida, with Santorum drawing votes away from Gingrich it was too late. Gingrich stayed on and in one last breath spent all the last resources he had in Delaware where he noticeably had more support than in other primaries on April 24th. It was still not enough and he lost the state.

Unless Mitt Romney dies he cannot stop from winning the nomination from Paul. He still needs to get the delegates to have a majority.

We got a thread for this but oh well.

Romney will be beaten to a pulp my Obama. Gingrich wouldn't have done any better. The rest of them were much worse save a few(I mean two).

Well I liked Gingrich, OK yeah he had the bad wives and all that, but he was speaker of the house, and you don't just get there for nothing. He passed a balanced budget to which is what helped the surplus right?

In real life terms, the US hasn't had a true surplus in several decades. It did relatively well in the latter years of the Clinton Administration who reported surpluses, but the fact is they weren't. And that had a whole lot more to do with Clinton's economic policies rather than anything Gingrich did.

I felt the same way with Gingrich as I did with all of the major Republican candidates. They had some great ideas and stances that I agreed with, some not so great, and some that were bat shit crazy.

What does his exit mean? Nothing that hasn't been obvious since January, and what other forum members have concluded on multiple occasions - Romney wins the nomination, and (probably) loses the election against Obama.

If you will cheat on your wife, there is no reason you wouldn't cheat on your business partner, or any partner for that matter.

"facepalm" the point that quote makes is if you cheat on your wife why wouldn't you cheat on someone else.

He is a corrupt politician. He wasn't loved as Speaker & sure isn't now. This Campaign has killed any weight he still carried.

Well really this now seems to be a fight between Obama and Romney and I feel Obama is going to win in the end.
