    Yeah... You know I've met a few "UnitedStatesians" (live), and I liked them, so I don't hate all "Americans" and I know there are a lot of smart people in US and I think you're one of them =)

    I do see your point, and that does (from your point of view) "justify" usage of "American" as a nationality, but it would also mean that using the nationality "American" was "justified" only after USA gaining independence and choosing a name for the nation. And I could start arguing about was it right or wrong to choose the name "United States of America", but I think that this conversation is going nowhere fast, and it would go nowhere if I'd do that, so it would be complete waste of time for all of us.

    Makes sense because before the US broke away from Great Britian we refered to ourselves as English.

    To be honest, Kali's having a point. When you are proud of your country, you basically say that your group is better at some things than others. That can never be objective, because scientifically, there are no significant differences between human races. Not according to generally accepted science, anyway.

    Less a matter of superiority and more a matter of potencial for productivity. I just happen to agree with the model of living under which the Chinese people live - their culture, my culture. I don't necessarily look down on others or think the model that I believe in superior. I live one way and generally respect the others' ways.

    Generally accepted psychology also says that people will always prefer the familiar and predictable.
    I've identified with a group that I see as familiar and more predictable than other alternatives and am comfortable with them.

    I have to agree with that the chinese are more productive than we westeners (we've gotten lazy), though I'd say that the japanese are the most productive.
