Hopefully 'our time' extends back to the late 18th century. That way it's Napoleon Bonaparte and not Adolf Hitler.

Oh god those comics are fucking amazing.

    Exactly.

I doubt the Spanish could "save" the Aztec and their knowledge from the plagues they brought with them, even if they wanted to.

I don't know, converting to the religion of the people you consider your gods? Sounds pretty strange to me.

Recently, it's been in the news around my hometown as Napoleon visited 200 years ago or something.

The Persian Empire was far superior in almost every single way to modern day Iran.

While they might not have started it, they undoubtedly had an effect on it.

Only their army, the people didn't really like being ruled by them since they were kind of a bunch of slaughterers. They did have the first ever "professional" army.

Why not? Europe is interesting, but studying how Chinese cutlure developed is the most exciting thing you can study in History. Did you know that one dynasty made being late to an official meeting punishable be death. Ancient China and Japan, love them.

To be honest, I like the period between the industrial revolution and WWI best.

Does that include the bit where the Communards took to the streets of Paris (well I guess it did inspire a lot of socialists) and the apparently stable Third Republic consolidated its position by murdering thousands of Parisians, all because the Prussian (soon to be German) Army was allowed to march down Napoleon III's nice wide boulevards?

To be fair, I like ancient China, actually, all of China's history until the Ming dinasty, after that they became boring.

China could have discovered the new world and build up a colonial empire... But the emperor decided differently...

Why would they in the first place? They already had all the materials and men they could possible need without overstretching.

True, but still burning all those ships and documents of voyages is radical thing. They were open and eager to explore. All that changed when a new emperor ascended to the throne and his new policy lasted for centuries...
