So I was getting around to thinking, perhaps it would be awesome to hold an Olympic Games competition in MineCraft. We could hold all sorts of events,

Wrestling - Two unarmed men (maybe wearing leather armor) beat the living shit out of each other for our amusement.

Sparring - Two guys with wooden swords and leather armor fighting each other.

Mock Battle - Two "armies" are put in either end of a stadium and given a limited amount of supplies to kill each other with.

Acrobatics - People who were highly qualified in the Acrobatics skill could jump or some shit. I don't know.

Mob Wave fighting -A person is locked in a room and forced to fight hordes of mobs. His time is kept and compared with other people in the same situation. Whoever lasts the longest wins!

Skiing - There's a mountain side covered in ice and smooth stone. Skiiers have to get down the mountain side first, ideally trying to speed up on the ice and avoid the smooth stone. This one would be hard though because it would require admin powers and it would be nice if the individual factions put these on themselves.

Of course, there'll be a torch bearer (flint and steel) who has to run between all the participating faction capitals and light a beacon. Ideally this beacon is under a shade so he doesn't have to go back if it rains. Also drug tests to make sure no one slips in some potions before the competition.

I think it could be interesting. The Medals would be something unobtainable so that they could not be forged. So, say, the first place prize was bedrock so that everyone knows he must be the greatest person ever.

Sure. I think there should be rewards for the winning nation (s), too.

I don't know why this thread has died, it sounds like a fun idea to me.

Fey's brother (concura) is actually building an arena, and I installed a teams plug-in to facilitate this.

The only problem I see is mcmmo affecting this because if a player has a much higher unarmed skill, he is going to destroy the other guy. Still it would be an incentive to level up certain skills, and it's not like the real olympics doesn't have different skill levels within the competition

We haven't evolved to that level of human cooperation on the server. Once the factions set legitimate borders, a few world wars, the swiss come in and say "Don't shoot that", and we develop distinct cultures and competitiveness, then maybe a few sparring sessions and an archery contest.
