Just thought that was interesting, because I am also doing a Native American stereotype paper. Even to try to stop stereotyping in this era by the state Oregon, it will cost the 17 high schools thousands of dollars to change their mascot. Or they could lose funding in 2017. http://articles.cnn.com/2012-05-18/...erican-mascots-philomath-high-school?_s=PM:US http://www.latimes.com/news/nation/nationnow/la-na-nn-native-mascots-20120518,0,6856118.story
I don't really think this is an issue, those seemed like pretty horrible names anyway. Use the Canadian example, use words from Native American dialects, like we did. All three names on my "Location" (Canada, Ontario and Toronto) are all words in a Native American language. And no, they do not mean "Savages" or "Indians".
The Oregon State Legislature is right. Those Indian mascots are so uncreative. Get a fucking imagination, High School!
