He should be a Italian state like Savoy or Sicily or he could try the Byzantium but that would be a waste of time.
Perhaps he could play as the Timurids. With them, you have a lot of nations beside you that can be annexed, and you have the option of either forming Persia or the Mughal Empire.
Persia would be an awesome lets play. Reform one of the greatest empires in history. Either that or a Spanish state or and Irish state. Spain would be cool because Stalin could attempt to gain complete control of the New world and Northern Africa. But Persia would still probably be the best choice, he should advance the time to when Persia first forms.
Well, there's a MiscMods scenario where you have Jerusalem from the start, and you can release the Kingdom of Jerusalem if you're Catholic and own Judea, covert it to catholic, have 10 Papal Influence (I think) and the date has to be before 1500. An Irish minor would be pretty interesting, although England and Portugal seem to always want to expand into Ireland (I can understand from England, Portugal not so much though, especially when they break their alliance with England). Persia would be very interesting, I don't know exactly when they first show up though.
