The term barbarian for the romans is today's equivalent to the latino's 'gringo'. It basically denotes foreigners, the meaning we got today probably derives from the final days of the Western Empire. Well, that kind of contradicted itself but I guess you understood what I meant.

Douglas Macarthur was like the reincarnation of Ancient Roman competitive mentality. In ancient Rome, children were encouraged to be as good and better as their forefathers. Douglas Macarthur was like that, he's entire life was competing against the legacy of Arthur Macarthur, and this was encouraged by Pinky Macarthur, Arthur Macarthur's wife and Douglas Macarthur's mother. Funnily they both died alone and forgotten by Washington.

In the 1930's a group of wealthy business men, including G.W. Bush's grandfather, tried to attempt a coup against FDR on the basis that he was turning trying to implement communism and install a Fascist government. They tried to recruit General Smedly Butler but the general ratted them out during a secession in congress. No one involved in the plot was brought to to testify.
